Environmental Benefits:

Carp aggregations are normally produced by significant population being trapped behind impoundments or in lakes at times of declining water levels and if not removed can be deleterious to water quality and potential human health hazards.

K&C Fisheries are conscious of the environment in which they harvest its raw product from. There are significant environmental benefits achieved by the removal of this pest from our waterways, together with the benefit of the resource available to it's core business.

STRATEGIC PLANNING & ALLIANCES

Over the past 20 years much of K&C Fisheries efforts have been directed at perfecting fishing equipment and techniques to ensure cost effective harvesting and the establishment of sufficient market outlets to ensure company viability.

Unprocessed Carp is a low value commodity therefore efficient harvesting of large tonnages combined with cost effective transport and processing are paramount. Fish quality must also be maintained to a very high standard.

K&C Fisheries in its operations in the Gippsland Lakes has achieved these goals, however in recent times high salinity levels in the Gippsland Lakes due to prolonged drought conditions have severely impacted on the companies ability to target sufficient supply of fish to meet current and potential demand. It has therefore investigated fishing potential in other parts of Victoria and New South Wales as the opportunities have presented themselves.

Fishing operations conducted in other parts of Victoria and New South Wales has highlighted difficulties in maintaining fish quality and cost effective operations when operating remotely from the companies processing factory. Environmentally and commercially there is a need to be able to target large aggregations of Carp that occur on a regular basis throughout Southeastern Australia and efficiently remove them from the waters concerned, at the same time effectively utilizing and value adding the product.

Spawning is seasonal, with 12 weeks of the year being peak operational time for hatchery work at K&C Fisheries. To maximize the use of infrastructure and reduce the downtime of personnel, K&C Fisheries are developing techniques to spawn fish all year round in its Aquaculture Development Centre.

Strategic Development, Joint Ventures & Alliances:

K&C Fisheries have a demonstrated long term commitment to Australian innovation through it's alliances, joint ventures and infrastructure investment in its Aquaculture Development Centre. Joint ventures and alliances include:
