Domestic Market:

K&C Fisheries supply whole fish direct to the Melbourne and Sydney Fresh Fish Markets. Trunks (head, gutted, scaled and tailed) and fillets are for smoking, canning and pickling are supplied for the fresh food market direct to companies for further processing.

Export Market:

K&C Fisheries export products include Carp Trunks and Carp Roe.

Frozen Carp trunks are exported to Poland, with a potential demand of 400 tonne per annum, the Middle East with a potential demand of 2000 tonne per annum and Europe with a potential demand of 700 tonnes per annum.

In 2003 K&C Fisheries developed a process to enable the production of a high value Carp Roe product for human consumption. K&C Fisheries delivers the Roe product in chilled/salted form, as opposed to frozen form supplied by other manufacturers, this saves the client approximately two days of production time in the defrosting and preparation (washing and separating) of the frozen product.

The chilled product eliminates the risk of loss of quality and is of benefit to the client with the reduction of production time. The product is packaged in environmentally considerate reusable plastic pales. These plastic pales provide an additional product to the customer, which they then on-sell to farmers for sealed feed and water bins.

80 tonnes of Carp Roe product is exported to Europe per annum.

Value Added Product:

The production of Trunks and Roe for the export market, created a waste product of Heads, Guts and Skin. These waste products are further processed and supplied for:

  • Bait to the Crayfish Industry in Victoria, King Island and South Australia. Carp flesh is hardier in salt water. As it is a fresh water fish, sea lice won't effect it. Because of this it becomes a cost effective bait for use by the Crayfish Industry.
  • To the plant fertilizer industry and the pet food industry for use in it's products.
  • The Skins are used for tanning to make them into a finished product, such as handbags, belts and other leather apparel opportunities.
